Abstract

|
|
Ocular ischemic syndrome (OIS) is a serious blinding condition that occurs in the setting of ocular hypoperfusion. It arises from chronic ischemia of both anterior and posterior segments of the eye as well other orbital structures supplied by the ophthalmic artery. The presence of an OIS always implies underlying causes of reduced blood flow to the eye and the orbit such as carotid occlusive disease. In this review, we summarize general concepts of OIS and present current scientific developments in delineating the pathogenesis and treatment of this disorder.
